Silly me - I left the HANNspree monitor on standby and it burnt out again! Perhaps it may be more fatal this time. My guess is that the burnt 10k resistor was sinking current through leakage in the low-voltage storage capacitor, which is C810 - 22 microfarad, 50 volts working. In normal operation, the current fed through the 10k resistor is cut off, so the resistor is not then dissipating. When the opportunity presents, I will replace the resitor and the capacitor and will be relieved if that is all that is now wrong. The moral is, not to leave these units on standby - always unplug them.
